La Ley 26.737 (2011) ponía un tope del 15 por ciento de tierra rural en manos extranjeras, un subtope del 30 por ciento por nacionalidad, un máximo de 1.000 hectáreas por titular en zona núcleo y prohibía comprar tierras con grandes cuerpos de agua. La Cámara Federal de La Plata declaró inconstitucional ese artículo el 21 de marzo de 2024. La Corte Suprema revocó ese fallo el 29 de septiembre de 2026 porque el CECIM, que había demandado, no tenía legitimación para hacerlo.
